Blue Diamond

The blue diamond gets its colour from a trace amount of boron in the stone's crystal structure. They are rarer than colourless or yellow diamonds.

The most famous of blue diamonds is the Hope Diamond which is said to bear a curse on anyone who owns it. The blue diamond in the necklace featured prominently in the 1997 blockbuster film Titanic was based on the Hope Diamond. Representative rings are actually blue Topaz surrounded by a diamond cluster to represent the Hope Diamond. The more boron that is present in the diamonds crystal structure the deeper the blue of the diamond. Deep blue diamonds are extremely rare. Lighter blue diamonds are easier to find and make striking engagement rings.
